Crane and Hoist Applications

Often, overhead cranes are used for heavy, repetitive lifting in Marine and Mining environments where conditions are harsh for operators and equipment. Limit switches play many roles in the operation of overhead cranes, including being a critical safety measure.

How Limit Switches Are Used in Cranes and Hoists

Heavy-duty limit switches can indicate when issues arise, such as a rope coming lose from the groove or when two trolleys are operating on the same bridge. A limit switch can also prevent an overhead crane from lifting loads that are heavier than the rated capacity.
Namco Crane Hoist Limit Switch Application Example
There are types of limit switches that help prevent the hoist from overtravel and some that help protect the crane motor from overheating. It is common to have more than one limit switch on single crane operation. While one switch can indicate that the crane is close to reaching the safe travel limit, another switch can indicate when the safe travel limit is reached and stops the crane from further movement. Heavy-duty limit switches are essential components to providing a safe environment in overhead crane applications.

NAMCO offers a full portfolio of heavy-duty limit switches to meet the needs of your valve position indication application. SNAP-LOCK® mechanism is unique to NAMCO position indication limit switches. This technology helps eliminate dead-band with quick make and quick break. The contacts are forced to be in one position or the other and cannot dwell in-between open or closed. Each switch has a locking mechanism that mechanically forces the contacts to stay closed until released by the trip lever. NAMCO switches are also designed with heavy-duty contacts for electrical durability and chatter due to vibration or seismic events.

Namco Heavy Duty Limit Switches

Namco heavy duty limit switches excel in critical industrial, hazardous locations, navy and marine applications where typical limit switches would fail. Every Namco limit switch includes Snap-Lock technology for unparalleled reliability and has the ruggedness to operate under the most severe conditions.
